Current Facility

The Fire Station was built in 1966 as a combined police and fire station. At that time there were no full-time firefighters or paramedics.  In 1985 the structure was expanded primarily to accommodate the growing police department, though an office area was added for the Fire Chief and administrative assistant.

Since that time the Fire Department has become a full-service department with staff of 21 persons, of which 18 are firefighter/paramedics who work 24-hour shifts.  The Town has for the last 20 years accommodated that staff in a house trailer located to the rear of the site.

The results of the feasibility study indicated that the building is inadequate in terms of space for apparatus, personnel and the needs for both administrative and other types of space. It is also in poor condition due to its age and limited maintenance, and it would be costlier to replace the structure than renovate and expand it.

A video of the site and buildings, as well as photographs of the current condition are representative of the existing living and working conditions, and the structural issues with the building is available below.
