Bay State Temporary Shelter Update

Update
6/20/24 - 5:45pm: The Town met today with the State's shelter task force, our public safety team, both school superintendents, Heading Home representatives, and the chairs from the School Committee and Select Board.  We learned a lot today and will be sharing the information at the next Select Board meeting on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 7pm. The meeting will be in-person at the Town Hall in Room 124 and residents will have the ability to participate via Zoom. As with all Select Board meetings, there will be a public comment period at the beginning of the meeting. This meeting will not include a public forum or any open Q&A format.

We're currently compiling all of the information into a document which we'll release after the Select Board meeting on Tuesday. The state has proposed solutions to several of our concerns, including assistance with our ambulance shortage and space in the schools. The Select Board will address this and any more information we receive up until Tuesday at the Select Board meeting. As a reminder, the schools will be holding a Bay State Shelter Parent Information Session on 7/11 6:30pm-8pm at King Phillip Middle School. They will be addressing their plans for the arriving students.

The State has also responded to the environmental concerns expressed by Norfolk's Board of Health. These will be addressed in a letter from the State and once that is sent to us we will be posting it on the Town's Temp. Shelter Update Dashboard, which can be found here: https://www.norfolk.ma.us/departments/administrator/temporary_emergency_shelter_dashboard_/index.php

We thank everyone for their patience during this time.
